About this instrument

The PPMS is an automated low-temperature and magnet system for the measurement of material properties like specific heat, magnetic moment and both Electrical (like Resistivity, Resistance, I-V) and Thermal transport properties (like thermoelectric figure of merit and Seebeck Effect).

Magnetic Field: Β±9T
Temperature: 1.8K – 400K

Magnetic Properties

1) Vibrating sample magnetometry, VSM (temp range: 1.8 K to 400 K; weight of powder sample/pellet = 10 to 20 mg; Thin Film sample size = 3 x 3 mm; Pellet size (for mesurment upto 300 K ) = diameter< 5 mm; Pellet / Thin Film / Crystal size (for mesurment above 300 K ) = 2 mm X 2mm).

Electrical Transport Option (ETO)

1) Electro-transport

a. Resistivity (Current range: 10nA–100mA & 2nA–8mA; 2 probe (resistance <5GΞ©) & 4 probe (only for Resistance <10MΞ©).
b. I-V
c. MR

Thermal Transport Option (TTO)

1) Heat capacity (wt: 1 to 200 mg (20mg typical); temp range: 1.8 K to 400 K; max. 2x2x1mm (LxWxH)).

2) Thermal transport (temp range: 1.8 K to 400 K; bar shaped: 2 x 2 x 8 to 12 mm; Circular: d=5mm, thickness=3mm).

a. Thermal conductivity.
b. Thermoelectric effect (Seebeck coefficient (1ΞΌV/K – 1V/K), Electrical resistivity & Figure of Merit).

ACMS II Option

1) DC magnetisation (temp range: 1.8 K – 400 K; sample size = 5 to 8 x 4 mm).

2) AC susceptibility (temp range: 1.8 K – 400 K; Thin Film Sample size = 3 x 3 mm; weight of powder sample/pellet – 6 to 10 mg; AC frequency: 10 Hz – 10 kHz; AC field amplitude (max.): 15 Oe.

Sub-Kelvin Capabilities

1) Electrical transport, Heat Capacity and AC susceptibility measurements using Dilution refrigerator (4 K – 0.05K).
